Everyone's heard Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D Major at some point, right? :)
Here's the most awesome rendition:
It began here, in 2011
Pachelbel Canon in D (Virtual Orchestra Project)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f109u_8zjqc
We invite everybody from all around the world to join this project. No matter what age you are or what instrument you play, all you have to do is record one (or more) of the excerpts posted on our website (www.littlesymphony.com). Upload it on Youtube and send us the link. We will add you in our virtual orchestra…
Then in 2012:
Pachelbel Canon in D (106 participants from 30 countries)

I was raised on Classical. First time I ever heard of Pop music was at age 10 when I was introduced to "The Osmonds" and "Jackson 5" playing on the stereo in the HS band-room one day when we got there for Beginner Band classes.
Come to find out later, my parents liked a lot of the music of the 50's and 60's but they never played it around me b/c they considered a lot of the lyrics to be suggestive & they didn't want me asking any of my direct questions about some things.
Back then, I guess playing anything like Jerry Lee Lewis to a kid would have been on par with playing Lady GaGa to a kid today. :-\
-
Oh yeah. Worse than GaGa.
They banned Bobby Darin's "Splish Splash", too :o
If you get the chance, grab the film "American Hot Wax", the story of Alan Freed. thumbsup1
Many of the R&R Pioneers are in the film, too (Chuck Berry, Jerry L Lewis...)
Might like this (nope, NOT Elvis singing!) :

Acid Rock, Classical & Big Bands/Sinatra were probably the only genres not played @ our house in the '60s-'70s. Don't know how I got hooked on the latter so young Bumpurr1

Big Bands/Sinatra
