Netflix Syncs With Facebook
« on: March 13, 2013, 10:56:04 PM »
Quote
Once upon a time, we watched movies with friends. Today, we can just see what they're watching through Facebook.

Netflix announced Wednesday that it will integrate with Facebook to allow U.S. subscribers to track the viewing history of their Netflix-watching friends. The social feature, first teased at Facebook's f8 conference in 2011, has been available to users internationally for more than a year, but was unavailable to Netflix subscribers in the U.S. because of a little-known 1988 law prohibiting the publication of a person's video rental history.

I know...what IS the deal.  Have to have a FB account for sooooo much.
I play Bingo games, on my iPad... have to have a FB account to get some of the "prizes."  If you don't have one, they hound you to death.
Guess I know how my my mother feels, when she tells me... "Everyone wants you to have a computer."

Just because it's there, doesn't mean you have to use it.. Let them integrate, if they want. Doesn't mean I have no choice but to give them access to my account. And if that becomes the case, that's when I stop using the site entirely. I'd rather get my DVDs via snail-mail from blockbuster funny2

What I wonder is, who on Earth would take the time to want to KNOW what their "friends" are watching, and their viewing history?

But, apparently, the demand is there.   Wacked.  Guess what the tabloids/TMZ/celebrities are putting out there isn't sufficient.   Doh1

Can't listen to the radio for half a minute without someone shoving F****book down the eardrums.  Can't turn the dial after a song soon enough, to avoid any talking.   :(   If it's not that, they're telling you to "text" to win stuff alll the time  bangshead  As if people aren't doing enough of that on the highways...

Netflix sucks in Canada. I go to rotten tomatoes.com before I get a movie, or go to see a movie.
What really bugs me is Permissions that mobile phone apps need. You basically have to have gmail, etc to have an android phone. I thought I was going to be able to download a few games, etc.. but now I am paranoid after reading all the risks to it, yikes!! Doh1 I should have stayed with my old cell phone. :'(

Don't do FB.  Don't do NetFlix.

Funny, if I want to see a movie with my friends, I text them.  It seems to work out just fine so far.   :D

And you have to have an Apple ID to use an iPhone.. You're stuck with something one way or the other if you go for a smart phone. I'm not seeing the risks? Just set up an account for the phone and leave it to die basically.. It doesn't need all your personal info or anything.

Carrier IQ http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/technology/what-is-carrier-iq/2011/12/01/gIQApql1GO_story.html is what bothers me about smartphones.

I'm still hanging on to my little "ghetto phone" (as kids call them) for dear life--It's an LG that I've had for 9 yrs now. I don't need all that BS just to make a phone call in case of emergency out on the road. And I don't need it for more than someone to call me if they need something either.

That's the only use whatsoever that I have for a mobile phone. I don't want to be texted. I have my Sony camera in my purse. I don't need a connection to the Internet when I'm not in the house. I like technology well enough, but I can walk away from it very easily too.
