Rad Cat Venison
« on: December 24, 2015, 07:27:37 AM »
I bought some.

When I fed canned, red meat (among other things) was a for sure barf trigger for Roxy.  Soooooo I stuck to chicken and turkey.  Now that she is on an all raw diet and taking no Pepcid... and only barfs (usually, but not always) if there is more than 8 hours between meals ... I thought I would give raw venison a try.

I kinda feel badly testing what her stomach can or can't handle, but ... with raw being the "answer" to her being able to stop taking Pepcid, it makes me VERY curious if raw venison will pass this test.  I think the biggie will be beef though.

I'll be watching.  I have hopes for the venison for Mazy cat but haven't been able to get it yet.  Queen Eva loves the beef but it is (relatively speaking) lower in protein than the chicken and turkey (on a DMB)

Roxy didn't barf.  So that was super good.  However, I fed it close to the same time as the mouse (dopey me!) and Goose had issues.  I'll wait a while and try the Venison again.

Queen Eva and Jennie had Rad Cat venison tonight for bed time meal.  I had offered all three of them tiny tastes when I was cutting it up, but there were no takers, even Jennie didn't seem to like it.  However, both ate it all up tonight..heavily mixed with Vets-Best and dusted PureBites  ;D

So that can be their Sunday bed time meal now.

I don't know when I will try it with Mazy cat.  She's doing well with the EZcomplete but don't want to do too much new all at once.

If you were cutting it up, I assume it was frozen.  Maybe they don't like it frozen cold.  ??

I finally fed it again last week.  I had to sprinkle with Vets Best for a few also.  I don't think it is so much that they don't like it, as much as it is something "new."  The next meal... no issues.  My bunch eat the same thing for all 3 meals.  Proteins and/or brands don't change until the next day.

The slivers thawed from the heat of my finger. Very tiny bits. Probably not enough to even smell it, it doesn't seem to have much aroma, compared to the others.

Besides most of the raw they eat is cold, or even a little icy still.  Jennie prefers it that way, it takes her longer to eat a chunk of meat if it's still frozen in the middle.

Jennie usually doesn't get Rad Cat..

Bought the venison again.  Received the HPP version.
Goose wanted no part of it.  Not even with a bit of crushed Vets Best sprinkled on top of it.  Vets Best used to always do the trick.  I may have to break down and buy Fortiflora.   :(
I bought 12 Venison, so we will see if she changes her mind.  lol

What?  The HPP is for chicken and turkey only, according to Rad Cat.

If you got a venison with a lid reading HPP, sounds like someone put the wrong lid on them. I would contact Rad Cat.  Tracey is always very responsive.

Rad Cat is not HPP-ing the finished products

Here is a list of what IS HPP'd:

Chicken thigh and leg
Chicken hearts
Chicken livers
Turkey thigh and leg
Turkey hearts
Turkey livers

There is NO HPP applied to any of the ingredients in the:
Pasture-Raised Lamb
Grass-Fed Beef
Pasture-Raised Venison

I checked the others that are still in the freezer... no HPP stamp.  Someone at my house (who will remain nameless) must have switched lids with the turkey that was in the refrigerator at the same time.

While we are on the subject though.... why is just turkey and chicken the only "risky" proteins?

LOL!  Remember the time ..someone..put Hare Today (with bone) batches in old Rad Cat containers without telling you?   funny2

Chicken and turkey are poultry and so more susceptible to salmonella.
