Vet Recommended RAID
« on: August 07, 2017, 10:18:38 PM »
An acquaintance mentioned that his dog suffers from bites on her ears from flies.  His vet recommended that he spray his dog's ears with Raid!

I'm thinking this HAS to have better ingredients then Raid.  Thoughts?

This same vet recommended that he feed his dogs RX "food."  So there ya go...

  Apple Cider Vinegar
Enlist the help of apple cider vinegar in your battle against flies. Apple cider vinegar is a natural fly repellent that you can apply topically to your dog or add to his food and water. Since most dogs don’t appreciate the taste, though, your best bet is to dilute apple cider vinegar with water 1:1 in a spray bottle and apply it to your dog’s ears and face.

Yeah. I'd try the ACV first. If the dog's been bitten, any of those other things will have a direct opening into the dog's body and soak it up. Those aren't exactly any benign ingredients in that ointment.

Piperonyl butoxide by itself can't kill anything, but it strengthens the reaction of other ingredients.

Cali considers Di-n-propyl Isocinchomeronate to be a carcinogen.

Pyrethrins from Chrysanthemums have a neurotoxic effect on insects, and can do the same to some pets.

Tell him to try mixing the ACV with some baby oil gel if necessary.

Good grief.  This vet has to be one of the worst, laziest vets ever.

I refuse to use Raid.  Just being around that stuff gives me a terrible headache, so I can only imagine what it must do to a dog's sensitive nose.  Using it around animals seems bad enough, but to use it ON one?  That vet should have his license yanked.   >:(

I agree, Catgirl!  I was floored when the guy told me his vet recommended Raid.  I'm glad you brought this thread back to the top.  I don't see this guy mixing water and ACV.  With summer right around the corner, I think I will buy him the Fly Off stuff.  It might not be the best, but it has to be better than Raid!  I think he will use it at least.
