Title: What The Cat(s) Did Today...
Post by: Lola on January 09, 2013, 04:09:09 PM
I LOVE reading stories about the funny things our furkids do.  Feel free to share!!

I'll start.
When it is time for breakfast, if I am not awake... I think they all discuss who to "send in."  Arrows wakes me up by giving me kisses.  If that doesn't get me up... Lucy is sent in.  She goes to my desk first... and tears up any paper she can find.  Then she gets right in my face and "yells" at me.  The others pretty much just stand around and watch.

Well... the other morning, I wake up to Arrows giving me kisses.  I'm thinking that is just sooooo darn sweet.  I get up... everyone follows me into the kitchen.  I look at the time.  2:30 am!!!

I tell them all to get new watches!!  I go back to bed.  They all went back to sleep as well.  It was like they knew they were pulling a fast one...or tried to.

Yesterday, Roxy and Jenkins were all snuggled up to each other in one cat bed.
Roxy had an upset tummy... barfed alllllll down Jenkins' back!
Jenkins is deathly afraid of people.  Jenkins runs from people.  Therefore, I could not clean him.  He would have to clean himself up.  That is a visual I could do without...cat "cleaning" another cat's barf.

Pets... never a dull moment.   ;D

Hey what a great idea for a thread!  So glad you've bumped it.  That vomiting thing is hilarious.  I hope Jenkins got himself all cleaned up by now.

I used to have cats who did the wake up calls like you describe.  It was Baby and Sissy and Bibbs and Ootay, but mostly Baby and Sissy would take turns trying to wake me. Baby would start by licking my eye lids. If that didn't work he would prick my cheek with his claws.  After a while he would disappear, then Sissy would come stomping up the length of my body. She would walk up and down me, and usually Baby would come back for some more eyelid licking. My ex was fascinated by this process.  He'd never lived with cats before and he was so astounded over the apparent concerted effort between the two cats.

Your kids must have been laughing their tushies off after making you get up at 2:30 am  funny2

Well I have one too, but not very funny, at least not yet.  How about a cat who takes advantage of a bit of chaos and eats at least four Vet's-Best tablets all at once. I stayed calm though inside I was freaking out.   I read the bottle and it says "in case of accidental overdose contact a medical professional" so I called the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center. I keep that number taped to my wall, right next to my phone.

They had the product in their data base and the vet said because all the ingredients are safe and non toxic for cats she will be fine.   She may have an upset tummy, she may vomit or have loose stool. Well it's been over an hour and she has had a watery meal (to help wash it all down) and she is still looking for food, so I guess her stomach is okay.  This cat has a stomach of iron I think. We'll see what comes out the other end though....

He got himself cleaned up fairly quickly... thank Goodness!

I agree that the group effort is simply amazing!  Baby licking your eyelids...how sweeeeet.  My Leonard used to do that.  Wonder what makes them pick a person's eyelids.  I don't know about you, but there is a lot of easier areas to get to on my body!  lol

Oh wow...glad everything turned out okay!  How did the "other end" do?
I think our cats may have exchanged phone numbers though.  Roxy did the same thing earlier this week, but with people vitamins.  I hear noise coming from the kitchen...something made me go look.  She tossed the vitamin bottle off the kitchen counter... broke the lid open... vitamins everywhere...and she was alllll over them.  Fortunately, it was a new bottle.  Only one had been taken.  I counted them, as I picked them up...only one was missing.  Thankfully, I caught her before she ate any.  Kinda surprised she even had an interest!

She had a normal poop last night, but very smelly.  I swear this cat has the digestion of a goat. funny2

Sounds like Roxy thought the vitamins were toys.  Gosh they take years off us sometimes.  Whoever said "pets make you live longer" never had pets I guess.

Digestion of a goat...LOL

Roxy has a "thing" about stuff on the kitchen counters.  We USUALLY remember to not leave stuff out.

I read that people that have cats tend to have lower blood pressure.  Sounds like a load of hogwash.   Bumpurr1

I keep my litterbox notes, on one of those computer sticky notes, on my desktop.  Lola (cat) walked across my keyboard and deleted it.  It isn't that easy to do!
Obviously if a box or the litter smells, before it is "due" for cleaning or replacement... I do it.  But I also like a routine... get it done before anything stinks.

If I have been at the computer too long... as in more than 10 minutes... Pippen will jump into the chair next to me, and very persistently put his front two paws on my arm and lean as much of his weight on it as possible.
If that doesn't get me to give him a scritch, he'll start pawing with claws just slightly out.
And if I continue to ignore him after that, he will nip.

Okay! okay!

Are those your kitties in your avatar?  Too small of a picture, for me to get a good look.  :(

I thought... I could swear we had a thread where we described our furmilies... but now I can't find it for the life of me.  lol

Anyway... Yes.  Those three are family.  Teaka is the momma, and Loki & Pippen are her sons.  They are Ocicats (https://www.google.com/search?q=ocicat&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a).

Aside... I never did get around to asking for a photo gallery... if you want to set one up for me, I can post some more pics.   :D

I think you did mention the details before, but...  if someone doesn't continually talk about their furkids, I tend to lose the info in my little brain.

Going to the gallery now...

Your section, in the gallery, is good to go!!  Show us more of those beauties.  (and your dogs) :)

Our cats eat breakfast between 5 and 7.  The time span is due to them wanting breakfast, when they hear one of us up and about...usually hubby.
This morning, I'm getting ready for bed at 4 am.  All the cats are up and about with me, so I thought that I would go ahead and feed them breakfast... close enough to their usual schedule... and hubby would be able to sleep in, if he wanted.
At 7 am, they ALL wake up hubby!  Of course, he feeds them.  Not one of them said a word.

Bounced off a screen I had just put in the window.  My fault, I know she's in the habit of jumping in that window, I should have warned her right? At least I didn't let her see me laugh.

Belle was very concerned for the Staffwoman the other day.  Silly Staffwoman was drenching herself in water!    :o  cat2 :o
Belle waited breathlessly for the Staffwoman to emerge from her "rain closet".
Just to make sure the Staffwoman was okay, Belle reached out her paw and demanded confirmation of life.
She was relieved to receive chin and ear scritches in response. HeadButt
After all... a princess couldn't possibly survive without her Staffwoman.

These screens are very sturdy.  One of the reasons I like this style of window (I call them crank out, I think they are called casement) is that the screens are on the inside, I don't have to worry about them pushing the screen out. Thanks for fixing my typo it was really bugging me, in fact I was going to ask you to fix it when I had more time.

Here's one for someone to explain...

When I'm headed to the dining area, with dinner plates in hand, the cats all follow me... of course.  Jenkins always spins around 3 times.  He does this while following me.  Not 4 times and not 2... always 3.

He broke into my bedroom while I was changing out of my work clothes!

Ok, not quite.  I hadn't closed the door all the way so the door would click.  Sneaky furball knows to listen for the click, so since he didn't hear it, he pushed on the door (we're talking stand-on-the-back-legs-and-use-the-front-legs-to-push).  Next thing I know, I see a mostly black blur race by and under the bed (because he KNOWS the room is off-limits).  I swear I could hear him purring under there . . . or maybe he was laughing.   funny2

But he doesn't like being in there if I'm not in the room, so all I have to do is leave and close the door with him inside and wait a few minutes.  He's MORE than ready to leave when I open the door to let him out.   funny2

Actually that's a valid training technique for things like biting and scratching in cats, especially kittens. Especially kittens who have been taken away from their mothers and litter mates too young or orphaned :)

Came home tonight.  Emptied the stuff, from my pockets, onto the counter.  I had a few coins.  Arrows swatted one coin at a time to the floor.  After one would stop rolling, he would move onto the next one.  It was funnny.  Kitty hockey.

It was probably more funny to him.... to watch ME have to go get the coins.

Babee was ecstatic, as most dogs are.   :-*

Teaka and Belle were actually the first ones to demand scritches & cuddles.   HeadButt
Pippen tattled on everyone, telling me aaalllll about it.   dramaqueen
Loki sulked, because he was not the first to get cuddles...   violingif   but he eventually came around.

For the rest of the night, I had an entourage.  Any room I went to, they all followed me in.   whatimiss
Teaka even tried to help me unpack my stinky clothes.   stickouttongue

I knew a cat who would punish her people for days after they came back from being away.

Like yours, I used to have one who would sit with her back to me for a few hours, and another who had to wind around me for hours telling me all about everything I missed. But this was not from being away for a number of days, since I never go away.  This was from any time I was gone longer than 8 hours.  ;D

As always, I fed the cats before I fed myself.  I needed a quick lunch so grabbed a 3 oz can of albacore tuna.  I had to take it outside on the porch to open it and eat it.  Even so, they mobbed me when I came back in.

Usually, I use those cans of tuna as a 'to go lunch', taking it with me and eating it elsewhere, so the cats are spared any feelings of deprivation.  But I was hungry and needed something quick.

Yeah, they never get fish, but boy they seem to love the smell of it. That's why I usually only eat it in lunches when I am taking my lunch with me.  I don't really like tuna fish, but I keep those 3 oz cans of albacore handy for when I need I quick high protein lunch. I just eat it straight from the can. Somehow I manage to choke it down.

Lucy (cat) was sitting on the bed.  Lacy (dog) came up behind her and gave her a sniff.  Lucy's back was to her.  Lucy was ready (paw raised) to smack, whoever just poked her.  When she turned around, and saw it was Lacy, she put her paw down.  Hubby saw it also.. I have a witness!

They swapped kisses and head butts.  It was ADORABLE.

Lucy, for some reason, has recently started showing Lacy a lot of affection.  Lots of head butts, butt sniffing, etc.  So not the norm.

Lucy and Lacy are adorable together. What makes it extra sweet is... Lucy doesn't beat up the other cats, but none of them are her friend.

Yesterday, Lilly brought two small lizards into the house.  They were alive, but slow moving.  What caught my attention was the noise Lilly was making...  "Mom, look what I have!"

She also caught the attention of all the cats.  There was this little circle of cats watching two lizards run around.  It was like they were deciding what to do about them.  Jenkins swooped in... ate them both.  He is now on everyone's sh*t list.

Dinner time is in 15 minutes.  I'm sitting at my computer.  I have Arrows on one side, and Lucy on the other.  Arrows is giving me little kisses...gently reminding me of the time.  Lucy is "yelling" at me.  I think she is saying... If you start fixing dinner NOW, we will be able to eat on time!  If I continue to sit here, she will eventually hit me in the head.  Talk about polar opposites!  lol

You've got it easy. Vlad's big head just comes and shoves me. And he's big enough to move me in the chair since it's on rollers.

Ootay (angel) used to sit on the bench and pat my arm.  If I ignored her or said "yes yes Ootay just a minute" she would politely wait, then pat again.  Eventually the claws would come out and those gentle pats would become not quite so gentle.   funny2

Lola joined Arrows.

One of these mornings, I hope to get a picture of them lining up at the cat door to go outside.  It is pretty cute.
They aren't allowed outside at night, or when no one is home.  Soooo they can get pretty excited when I get home...knowing I'm going to open the cat door for them.

I think the camera does add 10 pounds.  They look huge.  Lola (the one on bottom) is 10 pounds and Arrows is just barely 11 pounds.

The background of the story...

The cat bowls are lined up (usually on the floor  Silly7), in the dining room.  Whoever prepares the meal, also stands watch... to make sure the food stealers don't commit any crimes.  Apparently tonight the food thieves stepped it up a notch, and hubby felt Roxy's food would be safer at the counter.

(Responding to the outside pics) OHHH, just look at them!  How wonderful Lola!  I don't think I knew Lola was a Red Girl!  HeadButt

Thanks for the pics, I don't think they look fat but I know what you mean.  Mazy cat and Jennie always look fat in pictures and neither of them are overweight.  Mazy just has a very large udder (I know there is a real name for it but I can never think of it) and Jennie has a round middle probably from carrying too many litters.

A story I keep meaning to share here happened over a month ago now, but it was hilarious.  We were out in the yard and Jennie caught a very fat mouse.  There was a squeak and a commotion as she nabbed it and Queen Eva was on Jennie in an instant.

Jennie hunted to live for a long time so she doesn't mess around, that mouse was dead instantly, and I have no doubt Jennie planned to have herself a snack.

So, Jennie thought she was going to hunker down and eat it instead of having Queen Eva pouncing and trying to get at it and me hovering and trying to take it away.  Jennie had a lock jaw grip on it and was growling and growling and growing. Queen Eva kept darting in hopping at Jennie's face or circling round and jumping on her back.  Jennie must have been loosing her grip because she loosened her teeth for just a second to regrip but that was enough for me to get it away from her.

boy was she ticked off, LOL!

We have a PetCo but I won't go in it.  I doubt they have feeder mice there anyway.  In this hick town?   Jennie gets lovely chunks of beef, gizzards, chicken and turkey plus a chicken wing on Sunday.  She'll have to be satisfied with that. :)  OH, she is approximately 9 years old. When I rescued her vet thought she was between 1 1/2 and 2, and her 7th Gotcha day is in October.

Jennie-Jennie is so funny.  I put an old, worn soft white pillow case in her bed-bed.  The main reason was to watch for any evidence of fleas, but also, since the bed-bed has a fleece blankie I thought a pillow case might be cooler.

Well, Jennie loves the pillow case.  And when I took it out to wash it, I forgot to put it back after it was dry.  That night at bed time she had a fit because her pillow case wasn't in her bed-bed!  She stomped around the bed (and my body) muttering until I finally figured out the problem and put another pillow case there.

As soon as I put the pillow case in she was in the bed purring and kneading happily.

Sometimes I am a bit slow.  One time, a few years ago, Jennie was really really grouchy all day long.  I couldn't figure out what her problem was, though I am sure she tried to tell me multiple times, but I kept missing it. Finally, during the evening Game times the light bulb went on.

It was her rugs!  I'd picked up the rugs in front of the sliding door to vacuum, shook them out outside and hung them on the line to air.  Those rugs were her sworn enemy, she did battle with them at least once a day, and I had taken them away from her!

I hurriedly put them back and she immediately pounced on them and thrashed them soundly.  It was so funny, I felt so...brilliant, when I finally realized what her problem was, though I'm sure she thought I was being incredibly dense and stupid, LOL!

She doesn't play that Game any more, since Queen Eva came, because (am am guessing) Queen Eva would always come running over to get involved when she started, so she gave it up.

I have another story along the same lines, with pictures to go with it. Have to find the pictures first though.

Oh that's funny!  Queen Eva likes chewing on plastic bristles too (brooms mostly) but thankfully hasn't ever discovered my toothbrushes for some reason.  Maybe she doesn't like the minty toothpaste smell.

As germ phobic as I usually am... kinda weird I'm not grossed out.  lol

MC,
I have heard that cats don't like mint.  I was chewing minty gum once (fresh piece)... had my face stuck in my Leonard Angel's face.  He hauled off and hit me on the side of the head.  He hit me so hard, he knocked my glasses off.  He never did that before.  That was so not his normal behavior in any way!  Someone told me he was probably "offended" by the mint smell.  I pretty much never chewed gum again.  :)

Back to Queen Eva... think the chewing of the bristles may actually be cleaning her teeth a bit?
Title: Re: What The Cat(s) Did Today...

I don't let her, I am afraid she will ingest them.  I laughed out loud about Leonard Angel hauling off and socking you one.  My Tolly Angel LOVED absolutely loved mint and camphor.  He sat on the book shelf right next to the bathroom door every night and waited for me to finsih bushing, then I had to let him smel my breath.  Then I would floss and rinse with listerine and again, he would have to smell my breaht.

But that's not all, he went crazy for Vicks vapo-rub.  I think I have told this story before.  One time I was using the vicks for a muscle cramp in my calf.  Of course he came over to sniff, he found the smell irresistible.  He stepped up onto my leg and before I could stop him took a long loving lick.

Oh my gosh it was horrible.  He started tearing around the house drooling and gagging and tearing and drooling.  I finally caught up to him and held him checking him over to make sure he was okay.  He settled down and seemed recovered until he started to wash the experience off, as of course a cat always will.  I didn't realize he had gotten some on his paws and with the first lick of his paw the whole horror repeated itself. Oh man.  After that...he still loved the smell of it but was always very careful not to lick it, no matter how much he wanted to.

Queen Eva used to do that. And she would puff up too.  Now she's too grown up for that kind of stuff.   However my first Red Boy, Baby, did it too, but only after he had the personality change brought on by giving him sedatives. Before the sedatives he was an outgoing friendly cat.

My landlord still talks about my "attack cat".  that was Bibbs (Angel) I asked him to fix something in the house and he came in when I wasn't here.  Bibbs sat on the stairs puffed up and growling and hissing at him and refused to let him come up the stairs into the apartment. (the stairs are inside, my entry is downstairs) Since then, he waits until I am home if I need him to come in.

Yesterday was Pookie's least favorite canned food, the NV Instinct chicken.  I keep it in the rotation because it doesn't have carageenan and I want that extra variety.  He ate almost all of it, but there was still some on the dish so I left it in case he wanted it later (and was desperate)   ::).

His bedtime snack was cut up raw chicken gizzards and some bone broth.  I used a different (clean) plate for that, because he doesn't like it "contaminated" (mixed with) the leftover NV chicken.  Well, he was all excited to get the gizzards until he saw that plate near the NV plate.  He started acting like he wanted it but didn't want to go near it, and when I realized the "problem" and removed the NV plate, he happily chowed down on the gizzards.

Geesh!  Lesson learned:  keep the dish of Instinct chicken AWAY from the good stuff!   ::) funny2

Wow, Mazy cat is branching out!  She's been seen twice now in Jennie's egg-bed! (story of egg bed in another thread in cat chatter)

the other day I came home from work and no one greeted me at the door which is unusual.  I came up stairs, noticed the Lump in the chair (Queen Eva sleeping behind the cover) but no Jennie or Mazy cat.  In the bedroom I went and lo and behold, there was Mazy cat in the egg-bed!  Jennie was in the middle of the bed (my bed I mean) looking annoyed.

then again, this morning, she was in there again! this time I took a picture.  and I was so thrilled to see her there i even put off the vacuuming, because I didn't want her to bolt to her Safe Spot.

Later I saw Jennie crouching grumpily on the floor in the bedroom doorway but she moved before I could get the shot.

Usually they are spread out...all at different windows.  This particular day (it was a few weeks ago), I had the glass door open.  The birds were bathing in the water that was in the yard and singing up a storm!  I think being able to see and hear them was very exciting for the cats.

No one was chattering though.  Our Angel Lucky would always chatter.

I haven't broken many and I have this set since I was 16 years old.  Butterfly Gold.  :)  I have had it for so long, I don't have the heart to get rid of it and change to something new.  lol  Besides, I like the color yellow and I like how light weight it is.
Anyway...It doesn't break easily.  But when it does... it is a MESS!  It slivers into a bazillion pieces.

Lilly wants to sit ON my keyboard.  Sooooo, I had the bright idea of moving this (very well loved and embarrassed to share) cat post into the computer room.  I put it next to my desk.  Thought it was the perfect idea to make us BOTH happy.  It is pretty much level with the desk.  It is inches away from me.
So much for the perfect idea.  IF she can't sit on my keyboard, she will just sit on the floor.  Now, I feel bad.

I love the look on her face.  But she isn't on the floor you know, she's on the base.

In my experience cats do not like their furniture relocated!

Do you have an old keyboard.  Wonder if placing that next to the one you are using would suffice.  Pretend you are using the old one until she sits on it, then start using the other one.

Clever!  My experience, though, has been that you can't outsmart a cat.  I can just picture Lilly getting off of the one keyboard and then on the other one that Lola's using, or ignoring the one altogether.   funny2

It appears that our male Ragdoll has mirror recognition. He just turned 9 months old and started looking in our bedroom mirror when he was 4 months of age (we got him at 14 weeks), looking this way and that way. As the weeks and months have gone by, he keeps looking and now he puts his paw up in front of the mirror and seems to be no longer confused. HE KNOWS HE'S LOOKING AT HIMSELF! :o

When I stick my head in the mirror with him, he's not surprised to see me there. Our other 2 don't care about the mirror at all--nor has any cat we've ever had. Have any of you experienced mirror recognition by your Cat or Kitten?

We've had 8 beautiful, intelligent and awesome Felines in our lives so far but never have I seen a cat (or dog---we used to breed and showSt. Bernards) with definite mirror recognition.

Jennie and Queen Eva will look at themselves in the mirror, Jennie especially. I did once try that "mirror trick" putting a mirror in front of each cat and trying to see if they would notice themselves in it, but it wasn't successful.  But Like I said, Jennie especially likes to admire herself in the mirror. I used to have pictures but lost them in the computer crash.

Today it is so unbelievably hot I still have the ac on at after 8 pm.  I turned it off and opened the windows after the sun set like I always do, but it was just too hot.

Also like always I left the house open (windows I mean) when I leave for work in the morning because it is so nice in the morning and I can't bear to shut the house up.

When I come home at lunch the house was unbearable so I quickly shut it up and turned the AC on.  It cools down quickly.  Before I left to go back to work I checked to make sure I could see all three cats. It took me a few minutes to find Queen Eva.  In the sun.  Doh1

Darn I knew I would be annoyed with myself this morning for not taking pictures!  last night for some reason I was all wound up and couldn't go to bed.  Well, maybe because I was on the computer until very late, 'listening' to a friend going through a rough time.

I finally turned the computer off and hit the couch.  The cats, who had been waiting all night for that piled on me.  But after a few minutes Mazy cat decided it was bed time and disappeared into the bedroom.  So did Queen Eva.  Jennie stayed on me.

I just felt too tired eve to get up and brush and floss and go to bed.

Eventually of course I did because sleeping on my couch isn't really very nice. And I was freezing besides. (It's so cold here still, I love it!)

Anyway when I went into the bedroom I found Mazy cat in the bed-bed!  That has traditionally been Jennie's Spot, though it wasn't originally.  I thought there might be some fireworks when Jennie came to bed and discovered Mazy cat in her Spot but there wasn't!  Jennie just froze for a minute, stared at Mazy cat, then sniffed her way down the bed to find the little nest in the blankets that Mazy cat had been using during the day (while I was at work) and curled up in Mazy cat's nest!

I got into bed, Queen Eva came under the covers and curled up against my stomach and Jennie stayed down near my feet in the blanket nest.  Fortunately it didn't impede me from pulling the blankets over me, my it was cold!

All this was about 1:30 a.m.  When I woke this morning at 8:30 Jennie was in my arms, Queen Eva was still curled against my stomach (though I know she had gotten up several times in the night) and Mazy cat was still in the bed-bed!

I was thinking the other day about you feeling badly about not being able to take them all out into the yard... having the porch to go out on is probably just as wonderful to them.  They still get the fresh air and sun rays.

Thank you Lola.  They do love the porch and I am glad to have it for them.  They can go out there so much more often than the yard.  But I know they miss the yard. Stalking the chipmunks and moles (which have taken over out there by the way), rolling in the grass, creeping through the jungles....  We all loved it. But..I just can't put Mazy cat (and myself) through what the grass eating does to her, and I won't force her to stay in while bringing the other two out there.

Regarding my story of this morning, when I got home from my errands in town just now (a nice walk in the rain at the park, and some grocery shopping) order had returned to the bed sleeping places.

Jennie was in the bed-bed and Mazy cat was in the unmade bed blanket nest.

So here is a picture of that, and you wil just have to use your imagination to picture it in reverse last night.

Is there anything more delightful than coming home for lunch and discovering that every single cat has been having Games with her own personal toy(s) during the morning?

I do wonder.  Do they take turns, they way they do during Interactive Games with me?  Does Queen Eva play first, while Jennie and Mazy cat watch?  Then, when she takes a break,  Mazy cat runs down to get her thing and carry it around singing, while Jennie waits for just the right moment to bat her toy off the Playhouse roof and chase it around the house (and/or carry it and sing?)

I guess the only way to ever know is to set up the webcam and let it run while I'm at work.  But then I'd have to sort through 6 hours of it.  Or would there even be enough room on my hard drive to save 6 hours of webcam running?

I just saw Queen Eva give Mazy cat a slow blink.  I didn't actually know Mazy cat was over there, I couldn't see her but I was watching Queen Eva, just you know, watching her like you do watch a cat, she wasn't looking at me.  Suddenly I saw her face change a little and she gave this loving slow blink, looking to the right of me.  A second later, as I was just craning my neck to see what she was looking at, Mazy cat came into view.

Last night we were out on the porch when a moth flew right under Mazy cat's nose.  She went after that moth like a kitten!

She chased it into the house, leaped after it, swiped at it, grabbed it with her mouth, and chased it back outside onto the porch at which point it flew through the fencing and on it's way.  I know she was simply playing, she could have knocked that moth down at any time.  I saw her get her mouth around it two or three times too.  But she let it go.

Mazy cat is not normally a Hunter of Bugs, so this was a special treat for me.

Another moth. Well she wanted to catch this one, and she ate it.  I didn't want her to eat it, she'd only just vomited up a meal with a wad of fur.  But she ate it.  She didn't play with it at all.  She simply cornered it in the cooler (I store the cooler on the porch on it's side) slapped her paw down on it and ate it, before I could stop her.

I don't think so.  Queen Eva is a Burrower and likes to be under or behind things.  In this case, I think she thinks I keep the house too cold when I have the AC on, so she looks for the hottest spot.

Will they share the spot or not?

Doh1 Yes.  Jennie was behind that curtain long before Queen Eva every came here. Neither use it regularly.  In winter there is a warming bed there (the curtain isn't closed against the sun in winter) which is technically Mazy cat's but Queen Eva will get there sometimes too if she gets there first.  Jennie never uses the warming beds.

A number of Spots are shared.  Most are clearly owned by one cat, but the others may use on occasions. Some are never used by any but the owner.

She is resting on the arm of the sofa.  Every so often, she will straddle the arm.  Cracks me up.  I THINK she does it so that she can have some alone time... no room for Jenkins to snuggle with her.
She hasn't been brushed today, but she was brushed yesterday.  Her "bloomers" always look like that.  Hubby calls her a rag muffin.

Yesterday was the first dinner with friends since Izzi moved in. She was at best behavior, strutted her stuff, let Bizzi do the talking. They brought her a dog toy. A fox and almost as big as she is. No problem - she marched off with it. The aunties just watched. You could read their minds - silly thing just wait until they are gone then we will get our bribes.

All three whiskered terrors are asleep or better storing energy for later. We must have a sign on the door "free cat buffet". First there came Izzi and stayed. I trapped Oscarina the day the insane winter weather hit. Friends of the Shelter adopted her out:>) Now there is Blackie - pitch black short hair. She wants in but our pride objects loudly and clearly. SO feeds her and yesterday he loosened her collar. She has a sleep box on the porch. If she keeps hanging around I will have to trap her.

Speaking of Blackie - we were in the hot tub last night (it has a temporary winter enclosure) and Blackie loudly demanded dinner. She did the run back and forth, complained like a shopper with an expired coupon. She was bound and determined to come in as were the resident whiskers to keep her out. Two cans of kitten chow later she meandered on. She cannot be a year old yet, sleek, short very soft fur and loving as can be. SO stood his ground! In a way he is right - the difference between two aunties and Izzi was/is a major change. The Friends of the Shelter have not called me back. Well, I talked to them twice about using them as executor and partial beneficiary for a pet trust as we have nobody but a sibling each and those unreliable or allergic to cats. I will try again. The form at the animal shelter has me concerned. I have to sign an affidavit that I do not know the owner of the animal. SO wants to tag a note to Blackie's collar. The collar was ways too tight. ???

Depending on her personality Sheitan may be appropriate.

ChaCha and ShadowCat have middle names - trouble and mischief. Then there is Ghosty who lurks behind doors, under furniture and in corners. Cats and dark hardwoods do not go together.

Given her age, I'm thinking that it fit properly when first put on, but maybe she ran off and kept growing to the point where it got too tight.  Which is my naive way of hoping that whoever she belongs to isn't an oblivious or cruel @ss.

Here's a thought:  maybe Blackie would keep Izzy from torturing the two aunties.  Instead they could play with each other.   ;D

Good news - Oscarina and her new human are doing well.

Sheitan is gorgeous but it has been a 4 to 1 vote. Friends of the Shelter are short on cats. So I will do the deed when the opportunity presents itself.
Izzi was only 2 1/2 pounds so litter box, food water, bed (the heated floor map from my office) in a big dog cage were sufficient for a day and two nights. Then SO added two dog kennels into a cat condo for several nights while she was running free during the day. Sheitan is probably around 8 pounds.
It will all work out!!!! It has to!!!

"Shaka" it is:) Three cans last night, she sat then cuddled with us on the porch. Soft, a little bit of salt/pepper on her back. She tried to hunt birds but those silly bells on her collar gave her away. Shiwed up for breakfast. Our three are mad with us! SO will get a dog crate out of the attic and she will spend the night in the garage. Warm, window, the comforts of home. He is off tomorrow and will take her to the pound. A couple of days quarantine, vet visit then the Friends will foster her and bring her to Petco/Petsmart for adoption. This is a hard one. She is a lap sitter unlike ours. But she will have no problem finding a good forever home.

Aunties hear a mouse fart even when they are sound asleep. There was a teaspoon left in a can for second breakfast for Izzi. It was not on her plate yet when ShadowCat showed up and ChaCha gave me the "and me" look. There are days I feel like short order cook is part of my job description.

Please let me know if/when my prattling get annoying.

Shaka was on time last night. Our gang had firsts as it is called in The Hobbits's Shire and observe the intruder with noses pressed to window screens. So petted her and I made a dash for food. She inhaled the first can. I have never seen a cat wolf food down like that. Can number two and now the gang realized there was food involved. They requested their dues in form of seconds. I obliged as there is no way of resisting big eyes, protruding bellies and ribs showing, is there? Yes, I have a vivid imagination:) Shaka got leftovers and we did our evening walk to the herb garden. Tinker tinker tinker bell - here comes a fluffy pitch black fur ball with that pesky bell on her ratty collar. She knows how to work a room. Some love and purr and lap curling for me, some for SO. I took the flee collar off. Grimy, bleached out, no info on it. We went inside. She was not happy but meandered off. I put food on a plate, stepped outside and called her. She came flying and ate everything. Where is she putting all that food? Her fur is dull, you can feel ribs and hips but she is not scrawny. Ten days of good meals may have something to do with it. We were very torn about caging her or waiting.

6:00 am this morning. ChaCha decided that letting me sleep in 30 minutes is it. OK, I am on my way. Izzi move Bizzi off the bed step! Izzi wrinkled her nose - kibble and medley not today. ChaCha and ShadowCat are munching. New plate without kibbles. Shaka is pawing the porch door. Hey in there - me too!!! One can on a plate, Izzi distracted, door opened just wide enough to get the plate out. SO is off today and working his side job cutting matches from bed posts if you know what I mean:) Order up - second plate for guest with porch seating and no dietary requirements. A growl sounding like "coffee" and I offer him a cat plate. Did not work. Izzi wants at that thing and she wants it badly. I am still bigger and snatch her up. Off to the office we go. Aunties have full bellies and are interested but not determined. Izzi is as mad as a wet hen.

SO scooped Shaka into a carrier, opened the door in the garage and she moved right into the kennel, asked for more food and seems content. Pound opens at 9:00.

We talked about it again. She will not have a problem finding a home as pretty and lovable as she is. Really sweet little thing. As with Oscarina I will follow up until she is placed. Maybe the pound will accept a box of the kitten chow she seems to enjoy? Maybe they will even feed it to her? SO can be rather charming and persuasive. Is that mustache he is growing out an indication of some feline in him?

OK, I talked it out. Time for coffee, laundry, litter boxes and donating some quality time to the source of cat food aka work.

TGIF

Jennie stole my lunch. I've been wanting this "hot dog" for weeks (it's been waiting in the freezer all this time) but kept forgetting to buy bread.  What I call a hot dog is actually a kielbasi link.  I like to heat it in the pan until the skin is crispy, then I slit it, put some cheese in the middle and add a pickle slice.  Once the cheese is melted a little I put it on a slice of bread and that satisfies my "hot dog" craving.

I put the 'sandwich'  on the plate, put the plate on the table and turned to get my glass of milk.  I turned back with my milk and heard a THUD and the bread was sitting on the plate... empty. The THUD was Jennie jumping down and running across the room with her stolen treasure in her mouth.

I rushed to get it from her and she growled at me, which brought Queen Eva running over with a puffed tail, always ready to jump into any fray.

I took the thing away from her and threw it away.  They had only just eaten lunch, so she wasn't hungry, but I didn't like to eat it after it had been in her mouth, when she had just finished a raw meal.

So I never got my "hot dog" that I've been hankering for for so long.

I don't buy kielbasi very often because I try not to eat highly processed food like that.  That link has been waiting for me a long time.

By the way, this is not the first time she stole my "hot dog". It happened once before, when she hadn't been here very long, before I really knew what a food thief she is. She is quick!

I did a quick search and found two options here:  https://parent.guide/baby-proof-internal-doors/  Feel free to search for other options, or just check out your local hardware store:

Quote
Lever handle door locks
Did the original builder of your house decide to use lever door handles? These handles are incredibly easy for an infant to open as they can be pulled down by bodyweight alone. Fortunately, there is a baby proof cover and lock designed just for lever handles.

Baby-proof lever handle covers work in a similar fashion to the ones above. The cover fits over the door handle and can be secured with adhesive tape. If you require a sturdier solution, screws are also included to fix the cover to the door. Be mindful that this will leave holes when the time comes that baby proofing is no longer required.

baby proof lever door lock
Lever Handle Lock
Styles: As pictured
Brand: KidCo

Pinch to open
Easy to install.
Fits standard lever knobs.
Difficult for baby to figure out.

The Door Monkey
The second product is known as the Door Monkey. Named after the “monkey tail” that holds your door in place by securing it to the door frame. The Door Monkey does not completely seal the door. Instead, it leaves a small gap, allowing air to circulate between rooms.

The Door monkey can handle approximately 40 to 50 lbs (18 – 22 kg) before it becomes loose or breaks. Unless your toddler is the incredible hulk, he should be unable to generate enough force to break this.

Door Lock and Pinch Guard
Styles: As pictured
Brand: Door Monkey

Works on any handle type.
Installs in seconds.
Doubles as a pinch guard.
Adjustable mount height.

Basically, think "baby-proofing" when the cats figure out how to do stuff, or better yet, BEFORE they figure out how to do stuff.  I baby-proofed the cabinets under my kitchen sink where I stored my drain cleaner, etc., because my two furkids sometimes tried to paw the doors open.  I also had to "baby-proof" my refrigerator and it's freezer after I came home from work one day to see the freezer door (above the fridge) wide open.   :o  I suspect one (or both) had been climbing to the top to reach a plant I had up there and somehow managed to push the door open in the process.

Depending on the kind of knobs your stove/oven has, you may want to baby-proof them, too.  You just never know . . .

Good info!  We replaced our stove/oven many years ago.  At the time, it was very difficult to find one that wasn't all push electronic buttons.  We looked at a LOT them! Finally found one where the most they can do, is turn the oven light on.

Good luck!  Our Angel Lucky had that talent.  If you have easy to operate sink handles... they will be next.   Silly7

The instant hit water dispenser now has a very classy cover in form of a big turned over plastic box. The latest in feline kitchen decor. Yes, pj strings are of interest.

One thing I found that she does not like is of all things canned air. A small puff in her direction and she knows she is in trouble.

Thank you for caring!!!

All three doors leading to the outside have easy turn dead bolts and I religiously turn them. Habit after years of living on the Praerie with constant wind. Plus SO mounted good old fashioned chains to the very top of the doors and shortened them. Wiring around my desk is all tucked in. No knick knack to destroy. SO will deal with the pantry lights today and they are low voltage. Stove is safe and I will keep an eye on all faucets.

Last night she tackled a housecoat hanging up in the bathroom. Tried to walk off with it. Hillarious to see the little mouse with Bizzi all fluffed up tackle the big fleece monster.

Dishwasher and sink must have mysteries only Izzi knows about. You cannot find Izzi - open the dishwasher! Yes, sink strainers are in place and she cannot get them out. The aunties are sitting there, shaking their wise old heads and you can read their minds - silly thing!

Kittens.... never a dull moment!

When the dog rescue told us that she wanted to inspect inside our home, to make sure it was safe for a 4 year old dog... I kinda laughed in my head.  Anything a dog can think of doing, a cat already has!

SO made the mistake to get out of bed. Promptly his spot was occupied by Izzi who brought Bizzi along as usual. He gave her "the look" which she let Bizzi answer with one swoosh. Well, he brought coffee so I moved over a bit. After all who would disturb Izzi.

She is growing like a weed. Actually started filling out a bit and the long hair one of her ancestors gave her as legacy is coming in.

It is very tempting to the a beauty shop vacuums.

I love tummies!  I see she's baiting you . . . "wanna rub my tummy?"  Then when your hand gets close . . . CHOMP!

Is it just me, or does anyone else think she sort of blends in with the rug?   All those pretty colors . . .   :)

Not just you... she definitely blends in with the rug!

Our Lilly does the "wanna rub my tummy," BUT she really does want us to.  She enjoys a tummy rub.
Goose does it as well, but it is a trick.  Silly7

Squirrel bait has come a long way since she showed up barely alive in November. Yes, she is a joy though sometimes a bit of an overjoy. Try changing sheets when she is around:)

I get it!  Today is sheet changing day, at our house.  If I lock them all out of the room, it is a 5 minute job.  Leave them in the room... it is PLAYTIME!
Never a dull moment with cats. Thankfully.

I do have some serious allergies to cat dander.  HAVE to keep them off my sheets.  I tuck in EVERYTHING, so they can enjoy the bed, but not the sheets.  I didn't this week... SO regretting it now.

Lola will "tunnel," but she tunnels on the left side of bed, at the very bottom.  I sleep on the right.  :)

What strikes me about this video is the condition of Jennie.  This video is over 7 years old. Before I went to raw feeding.  Jennie, while active, seems a bit flabby and I can see her pink triangle, that area that she used to keep licked bald on her abdomen. She is almost 8 years older now, but looks way better than she did then...she was on a canned diet, rotation of brands, I think I had been in the process of eliminating carrageenan, but not completed yet (the pink triangle went away, after the elimination of carrageenan, but the fur remained short, still chewed, until she was completely raw)

I remember BIG changes going from kibble to canned.  A lot of visible changes.  The ones that didn't have extreme kibble damage... the barfing coming to a complete stop... wow, just wow.
Sleeping at night, was a BLESSING for the humans!
I wasn't expecting a lot of change from canned to raw... but there was!  "Attitude" and activity were the two biggies...that I can remember.

I am glad you have pictures to compare.... especially with being older and looking better now!

Izzi and Bizzi have outdone themselves. Wire shelves are on the inside of the pantry door for spices, onions and potatoes. Yes, onions way up there. She manage to wiggle a potatoe out and ran it through the house. I caught the second incident on tape but was on the phone. Izzi the tater thief!

Izzi's grain hair is coming in. Coat of many colors to say the least. According to SO that is what I looked like when I worked on site and had my hair done on a regular basis - high lights, low lights, red lights:>) Still a lot of hierarchy issues going on. Strangely ShadowCat is the mellow one. Izzi actually stepped on one of ShadowCat's feet this morning (lounged on the floor) and di not et reprimanded. ChaCha - she is just fussing up a storm. I told her to quit being jealous about Bizzi - it is so much easier to clean her pencil tail.
The aunties have decided that grilled chicken is acceptable thumbsup1 Izzi does not like it. All I get is the burrial ceremony - rightfoot rub, left foot rub - where is real food!!!

Red head?
So much for trying to confuse the pride by setting the breakfast bell aka coffee pot for 30 minutes past week day time. I was happily in dream land snuggling with the biggest Main Coon the world has ever known when the sound of 'oh no' brought that to a sudden end. My Main Coon turned out to be SO - well he is working on the whiskers and getting there. Hair ball alarm at 6:00. A good reason for house shoes. Feed the gang who goes through the game of musical plates. Refeed Izzi as she missed out. Go hunting armies with paper towels. Success!!! Take coffee and clinking cups to the bedroom, whisper loudly 'are you asleep' and open the blinds. So much for sleeping in. Having coffee with my better half, watching finches have breakfast on the porch. No cat to be seen!
Some cat grass is ready and we will plant some which will take about a week. Izzi was the guilty party. It is time to move to a cat brush to help her grooming.

Is this turning into my place:(

Izzi fought the monster and tried to bring the trophy home. She got a hold of the bow of my PJ pants and did her best to drag the beast out of the bathroom. She pulled and yanked as good as it gets. Darn jersey material snapped back every time she got traction. Standing on the pants did not help much. Bizzi was all poofed up and Izzi was chattering up a storm. She finally declared victory and stormed off. Morale of the story - laundry goes into the hamper.

Love this story! Many years ago I had a cat named Baby.  My first Red Boy, my soul mate.  I also had these slippers that looked like chuck taylor all stars converse sneakers.  He loved those slippers, he liked to drag them around by the laces, and bring them up on the bed.

Like you I had a pair of pj pants with a string through the waistband.  Somehow he got a hold of that string instead of the slipper laces once. I was in bed at the time and he tried and tied to drag those pants up on the bed.  For some reason he was determined to do it. I don't remember if he succeeded, all I remember was laughing and laughing, but trying to hide my giggles because I didn't want to offend him.

Weirdest thing I've ever seen. This VERY vocal cat decided it wanted to meet Barkly and Vlad. I told the cat, "I don't think that's a good idea fluffy thing." The receptionist asked me what I was talking to, and I told her that cat. She came and got it pronto and took it back behind the desk. Said it was new and and didn't quite know the office rules yet.

It was just freaky weird though. It looked somewhat like a short-coated Himalayan, and had bright blue eyes. Usually the cats don't get near enough to V&B for me to even determine eye-color.

I had my lunch sandwich laid out - cheddar and thinly sliced cucumber on one side and a glob of Ranch Dressing on the other. As I turned away for the blink of a second there was an additional item on the Ranch Dressing side. Bizzi spread nicely like a soft feather.
I decided not to continue my anticipated activity of biting whole heartedly into the joined two halves, grabbed a towel and Izzi and proceeded to Bizzi.
Well, a lot of women pay good money for hair conditioner. At least that one smelled appetizingly.

One nicely placed hairball around midnight woke whole pride up. Izzi's poofy blond hair is now coming in behind her front legs. I am so glad we started getting her used to brushing early on. She is getting better with letting me brush matts out. Hold and brush, brush, brush, hold and yank a bit. It is a labor of love and SO wants to make quick with it by cutting them out. No! She had her first manicure last night aka nail trim. I am happy to report that all parties involved are well. Yesterday Izzi and ChaCha were at the foot end of the bed. Later all three were stretched out in a rug in the bedroom. No fur flying! I have hope. ChaCha has figured out that she gets Izzi's leftovers IF she is patient and waits. I take them away if she pushes Izzi away. Sloppy and greedy eater as she is there is always something left for ShadowCat. ShadowCat is still trying to get to Izzi's food but she does not hiss much at me anymore. Three ring circus during feeding time but well worth it. ShadowCat's dandruff is getting better, ChaCha plays laser point in the morning but only between sofa and poof, Izzi thinks she is too big now to cuddle but morning time on my fur plugged key board is still special.

Neighbor was a bit miffed that I called and wanted to know when she would pick Ajax up. She is out and about with the kids ... . When? The husband was off and at home Doh1 I was not about to clean the aquarium again.

I'm glad Izzy had fun with her temporary pet, but..really miffed because you wanted them to take it back? It does sound like they were hoping you would clean it for them. Sheesh.

So much for sleeping in. SO played possum or better lumber jack when ChaCha dug me out while Izzi watched which made ChaCha fuss at her. I played my role of short order cook well until Izzi decided she does not want to eat. In circles we went and she changed her mind. By then ShadowCat wash grey agipain after all of 30 seconds of finishing 3/4 can and I had to step in front of her to keep her from pushing Izzi away. Nothing like two stepping barefoot while not awake.
Two hours later - same players, slightly different approach. I picked ShadowCat up and simply turned her around. Tried that without getting a hernia. Then she outsmarted me and got under a chair with side rungs; basically a jungle gym for cats under the table. I got her tail! Yes, I did the devious deed. It is very thick, about two inches at the base and has a tiny blond tip. Madder then a wet hen came to mind. It did not deter her on her never ending search for food. Izzi was done. She just steps away when she does not want to eat more.
ChaCha has learned that once Izzi steps away left overs are fair game. What am I going to do with ShadowCat? She is getting fat, refuses to play, had health issues such as pulled tendons and UIT and a trapped fart (yes, official diagnosis after blood work, X-rays and MRI) and is simply grumpy?

Can you feed them separately and see if things go a bit smoother?

Tried that. Izzi gets distracted when I close a door and wants to investigate while ShadowCat smells the rat and lays in ambush.

The aunties get their plates on a tray. Why ChaCha pulls her food off the plate to eat it only she knows. Izzi gets her plate on the counter.

ShadowCat was a bit hesitant to come up the cat stairs. The second Izzi moved ShadowCat was there. That is fine.

I know first world problem.

Pssst - all is well this morning. Overcast and a bit of a drizzle, windows are open for kitty TV, ChaCha is preening on the tiny Hamedan SO found for the kitchen island (yes their place to sit with him as it is called in Southernese) to replace the chair cushions, all three love it for reasons only they know, Izzi is counting the flock of sparrows a the feeder and recounting them, ShadowCat is helping her. Another cup of coffee and off to the hamster wheel of daily chores and work.

I am about to rename ShadowCat to Hooverette. She is cleaning plates. Again!

To show her displeasure she peed on the rug between stove and island. Rolled it up threw it on the porch. No time to fuss SO needs breakfast ready at 6:15. She pushed ChaCha away from her bowl and gulps everything down. So be it today. She waddles into the hallway and presents the facts of live on the rug. Ok, roll it out onto the porch. Burrito filling is ready. Need pepper. ShadowCat refuses to move from the pantry door. I kind of stick my head in to reach the spice rack on the inside of the door. She hisses and slaps me. I jump and hit the spice rack. One nice blue cheek bone for a couple of days. Looks like a bad make up job. Sounds like slap stick but I was lucky by an inch. Then she came on my desk, settled and spend a couple of hours. Go figure.

Izzi counted coup thumbsup1

She was stretched out on her back when ShadowCat walked by and stuck her face close. Tap on the nose. ShadowCat seemed a bit bewildered and tried again. Tap on the nose. She turned around to walk away and Izzi got a hold of the tail. Nipp.

Our hutch doors are very hard to open, but we had one cat that could get them opened and get inside.  Lucky (RIP).  She was VERY light on her feet though.  It was AMAZING that she never knocked anything over!

4:45 nothing like the sound of a furry retching or has SO added a new tune to his repertoire? My trusted tiny flashlight and I check for evidence. Nothing:) Cruelly ignoring three starving fur balls I crawled back into bed. No, I was not giving up the 30 minutes until the alarm goes off. And off it went! It sounded like Izzi was bringing up her insides when she presented a monster of a mini hair ball on the rug in the bedroom. That cocked little head and the big question on her face - I was bad but it had to happen. Poor little thing!!! She gets brushed at least twice per day but the Floof as a friend calls it is getting longer and more by the day. Bizzi has a part in the center as the dark strand of grain hair is weighing the Floof down. All is well. The other present was under the office chair. Let's see what the day brings.

5:30 - ruckus in the hallway, some not printable language. Izzi doing a drive by in a hurry. SO had two full coffee mugs in his hands when Izzi scooted between his feet. He hit the wall, coffee all over, he bruised all over his left side, Izzi sat down, cocked her head and gave him the "you are a clutz and a big one". Wall washed, floor mopped, rug out to the patio. Do you not love house work at this time of the day?

You might want to soak it in salt water to help with the inflammation.  Do you have any coconut oil?  That's antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and I've found it works wonders on cuts.  But absolutely, see a doctor if it gets any worse.  GoodVibes

Your earlier post called her (and me) "Moms."  She's saying, she'd rather be a "sister" than a "mom" as your earlier post, esp. since, depending on how old you are, making her your "mom" might put her in the "old enough to be in a nursing home" category.

I have to correct myself as I misunderstood SO. She was not quite 5 pounds 11/11/2017 and came in at 10.4 yesterday. Still skinny and a bad eater but seems to get less easily distracted when eating which is good.
To answer the question - most of it seems to be fur. Just check my desk after she is done doing her self assigned dusting job.

We went through our notes today. At her 30 day follow up she had almost 5 pounds. She fit in an 8 inch clay saucer and had room to spare when she showed up. There is nothing you can see but floof:) Her bones are not sticking out anymore if that answers your question. I can still scoop her up with one hand. Shoulder height is at least 1 1/2 inches above ShadowCat.

I plopped ShadowCat onto the bed, she waddled to her spot and called it a day. The sound of hair ball! No! I got deeper into the feathers. No! Turned on the lights, grabbed a paper towel. There was poor Izzi on the rug infront of the bed. Of course no bag in the trash can in the kitchen. By then ChaCha was in breakfast mode and Izzi was about to join her. OK, let me keep my ankles please. Here comes ShadowCat. I picked her up and took her back to bed. No screams, protests or squirming. She settled back in until the alarm went off. Then she meandered towards the cat stairs, snorted at Izzi and used the stairs  DrLisaPiersonWorthy note - she had to move over soft things.
