Anyone have any funny (or not) stories about their dogs?  If so, share them!   :-*

Baby gets grumpy at the cats if they try to steal her bed.

Teaka gets a nose in the face.
Pippen gets a growl.
Loki gets the full treatment plus a bark.

Belle, however...
Well, if Belle happens to steal the bed while Baby is out of it, then she is allowed to stay in it.
The Princess always gets her way.

I'm so proud of Vladdy!

Granddaughters were over here for a while today. For the first time ever, I told him,"Down," in the doorway to the kitchen, and he went down and STAYED THE WHOLE TIME THEY WERE EATING LUNCH!!!! No redirection necessary at all!

He ignored his 2 biggest lures of all, children & food, and calmly laid there the whole time!

YES!

LOL! Of course he did! They rubbed all over him after they were finished, and I made his lunch with broken up pieces of Zuke's z-filets on top for a special "Attaboy!"

Saturday, we took the boys to a Casting Call/Bark Party. Knowing I could get a photo from pet photographer that's well known in this area was the icing that had us driving an hour and a half. We knew it's a BIG long-shot to take black dogs to things like that, but hey!

It was also a good opportunity to see Vlad's reaction in a big group of dogs like that. He's never been in a group like that before since he can't go to dog parks and be off leash to run until he's two.

His mom was also brought and she helped show him proper demeanor in that situation. We really weren't sure how he'd react, but he did really well to be in a crowd where there were over 100 dogs that day. But at least I had the kind of help there that knew (MUCH better than me) how to work with it if he did go a bit nutzy.

He didn't even find any men there to growl at. I was proud of him.

Barkly was his usual social-butterfly self. I don't think he's ever met a stranger whether it be animal or human.

Here are the boys:

Maybe one day hubs will give in and let me pay that sitting fee with her. *sigh* At least he let me order a couple of them b/c he loved the photo of his little baby Barkly.

Lacy went to the master bedroom back door, so I let her out. She preceded to the other back door. Hubby let her in. Guess she just wanted to take the short route to the dining room. Lol

She played outside with me, for the FIRST time yesterday...since the Sparky fight.  I have been trying and trying.
It took a while just to get her to hang with me outside.  For the longest time, she would only stay outside long enough to do her business.

Seeing her happy.  I mean reallllly happy...awesome.  She has been in the dumps for a loooong time.

Funny story (to me anyway...lol)  A week or so ago, her and I were in the backyard.  I was pulling weeds.  I pretended to not notice her wanting to go back inside.  Hubby wasn't home, so there was no one inside for her to "talk" into letting her in.
She would come up to me and "talk" to me... kisses... walk back to one of the doors...etc.  I would talk to her and pet her...but not visually follow her, when she went back to one of the doors.  She finally sat her butt down right in the spot, where I was pulling weeds.  I thought... she couldn't be doing that on purpose.  I moved to another section.  She did the same thing.  She won... we went inside. :)

Someone needs to warn Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter that Vlad & Barkly ARE a good team and they can catch you! *shudder* Wish rabbits would stay out of the fenced area.

Did Vlad & Barkly catch any rabbits?

I've been told that the rabbits around here, carry diseases.  Too bad.... free rabbit meat would be cool!

Barkly had his mouth on it and was pulling on it while it was half-under the fence. Vlad finished running up and knocked his mouth off of it, and the chase was on again. They're doing just like Dannyboy and Sharkly did. One gets behind, one goes in front, and they corral it between them. This time was their most successful chase though.

I was screaming like crazy. They've got bad, bad, bad illnesses! Tularemia being among the worst:

http://www.medicinenet.com/tularemia/article.htm

You have to know what you're doing if you are going to catch rabbits for survival.

From now on, we're going to do like tonight. He goes out and chases anything out there out of the fenced area, and then I follow with the boys.

My neighborhood isn't way "out there" anymore, so we don't see rabbits much at all anymore.  Or coyotes.  :)

We have been taking Lacy more places... change of scenery for her, since we don't "do" dog parks or walks.

We got the full works... lava wax.  The do it yourself wax on/wax off is soooo much work.  Well, more work than I prefer to do.  :)  I was amazed by the lava wax.  I didn't have to do ANY touch-ups.  Windows were clean and spot free also...on the outside.  It didn't clean dog boogers from the inside. lol
It was soooo worth the 15 bucks.

We're sitting here LOAO.  Barkly had a chew toy Vlad wanted. Vlad kept on glaring at him just waiting for him to get up. Suddenly Vlad jumps up, still staring, then turns and runs to the door growling at it. Barkly jumps up and goes to the door too. Vlad runs back to the chew toy where Barkly left it and took it for himself. Now how smart is that?

And no it's not possible that he thought that something was really there. He wouldn't have turned around that fast--about 2 seconds after Barkly got there. Vlad takes his guarding seriously. He won't leave the door he's growling at until someone gets up and checks. That's why I'm never scared to be alone with the wooden doors open--storm door locked though. Vlad's just that serious about protecting me. Anyone that tries to come in here without me letting them in is just plain crazy.

I buy everything in 4's. But it doesn't matter. Whatever the other one has is the "good" one.

Poor Barkly realized he'd lost out and just flopped down on his belly the way Corgis do and watched Vlad for a while before deciding he'd lost out completely and found something else.

Well the "psycho cat" from Oregon, is obviously scary enough that Barkly won't watch it tonight. He actually seemed to be afraid of Cat from Hell tonight and was hiding under our desk during the whole show after about 1 minute after the show began. The cat I'm talking about that was on the news earlier this year:

How do you manage that? Ours don't shut down until we tell them it's bedtime and cut the lights out. I think they're too afraid they'll miss a treat at some point while I'm awake.

I just played a few short clips of cat videos, while there are cats in the room with me.  For the most part, they aren't paying attention.  A lot seems to depend on the particular noise the cat is making.  Today anyway.

Hubby is the only one with a normal schedule.  However, his hours just changed for the summer.  Me... my schedule is that I totally crash on about day 4.  lol  The only schedule we keep, is meal times for the furkids.

Arrows (cat) calls it bedtime, when hubby does.  There are times when Arrows can barely old his eyes open, yet he will wait on hubby.  We added a one cat - cat tree/seat, next to hubby's recliner, so Arrows can go to sleep when he is tired.  They both can take cat naps, and not be asleep... officially.  ;)

Today I FINALLY got one of them to play fetch! Barkly's the only Corgi on earth that doesn't go berserk over tennis balls and fetch. Sharkly would chase them for hours until your arm fell off.

But after getting home from working on the rental house (don't even ask) I had a Gatorade, and I was sitting in Vlad's rock pile with him. After finishing, I put some pea-gravel in the bottle, and shook it to see his reaction. He loved the sound. I threw it, and he ran after it. Didn't bring it back though, so I chased it and threw it for him several times before going indoors.

Today after getting back, I threw it for him a few times. After the first time though, I picked it up and held it out at his mouth and he took it. Praised him a whole lot, then threw it again. When he chased it that time he automatically picked it up, and I called to him, "Come Vladdie. Bring it." The next time I only told him to, "Bring it."

My happiness that he learned it so fast only lasted a couple of more throws. Then he went and grabbed it the last time and ran off to a corner with it, just holding it between his legs. So much for that. He's obviously got a lot of the type of Airedale in him like Dannyboy was. It works a few times then it's going to be claimed with a "That's it!" look.

Barkly sat beside me the whole time, not moving unless I did, with his head cocked and giving Vlad the oddest look I've ever seen.

That is a great story. My cats have done things like that and I have read of other dogs doing it too.  animals are certainly capapble of that my sequential thought!

PS just read amnd enjoyed the fetch training story too.

I am in the computer room.  Lacy is laying next to me.  She gets up, walks past me, goes into sleeping hubby's room... barks at him to let her outside.
Guess she thought I was busy, or it was time for him to get up.  Funny creatures, aren't they?

When I let Lacy dog out to go potty, Arrows (cat) darted out the door...into the backyard.  In a panic and running after him...  Lacy RAN across Arrows path.  She slowed him down, but I missed.  Lacy ran across his path a second time.  I caught him.

I don't think I would have realized that Lacy did it on purpose, if she hadn't done it twice.
I was STUNNED, thankful...and so proud of her!

This darting carp is fairly new...last 6 months or so.  We caught on to most of his darting tricks (he stayed one step ahead of us for a long time) to get into the garage, so I guess he has decided to change it up a bit.  :(

Garage tricks:
If human's hands are full... opportunity to run!
If humans are yapping to each other...opportunity!
If humans are watching for him... plan ahead. The sound of car keys is a sign the door will be opening soon...hide behind litter box that is near door.  Dart as soon as door is open an inch or so.

Soooo now that we know he watches us and knows our habits... we have to constantly change how, when, and what door... for when nature calls for Lacy.

When there was Lacy and Sparky... interaction between dogs and cats was limited and supervised.  Sparky had a strong dislike for one particular cat.  Soooooo it was just easier to be safe, rather then sorry.  I didn't realize it at the time, but due to Sparky's dislike... we automatically had Lacy follow the same "rules," more often then not.

Anyway... with just having Lacy, we are seeing just how sweet she interacts with the cats.  It is hard to explain.  She plays with the ones that want to play.  She gives space to the ones that want the space.  If a cat wants to nap with her in her bed... that is fine.  If a cat wants her bed to his/herself... she will gently nose them over to make room for herself.  She is respectful, but not a pushover... best I can explain.

Just thought of another example... :)
This morning, Lacy and I were coming in from outside.  Coming in through slider doors that have film on them.  We can't see inside.  I opened the door.  Jenkins was laying in front of the door that opens.  Lacy and I stop to give Jenkins time to move.  He doesn't.  So Lacy gives him a little nudge with her nose.  It was a very SLIGHT nudge.  Jenkins moved, but he had a few words to say also.  lol  Lacy didn't respond in any way to Jenkins' reaction.

Thanks.  She is pretty awesome.

I'm apparently the dominant one in the people/dog pack.  Lacy is more apt to do what I ask of her the first time I ask.  Hubby sometimes has to make his request twice, if I am in the room.  If it is something that Lacy would rather not do... she looks at me.  It is such a funny look!  It is like... If Mom tells me to do it, I will.  Or... Mom, do I have to?  She is a crack up.  I just love the furkids!!

Lacy goes with me when I take my car through the auto car wash.  Then we drive through McDonalds.  I get her a regular hamburger.  No bun.  No condiments.  Just a plain hamburger.  It usually takes some repeating, because the drive through window person is pretty sure s/he heard me incorrectly.

Son says to me... "When we were allowed fast food, we had to order exactly what was on the menu.  We had to scrape off anything we didn't want."

Never saw this last year.  LOVE it!

"Write that complaint in Chapter 4 of your Mommy Dearest book."

Hilarious!

Hubby and I met a friend for dinner last night.  Before we left, I opened the door to let Lacy outside.  She went out the door and turned right back around to come back in.  That means... "too hot to be outside and I don't have to go potty."
We were gone less than 4 hours.  When neither hubby or I are home, we put her in the master bedroom with no cats.  It isn't uncommon for her to be "locked up" for 7-8 hours a few days a week.  Anyway....apparently she had to go potty, during the time we were at dinner.  The door and two walls needs some fixing now.  She has NEVER done anything like that before!  I am really surprised she didn't just potty on the floor.  The room is pretty big... she could have used a spot, far from where she sleeps.  Plus, there is a rug in the bathroom.
She shot out the door like a race horse, when we got home!
The walls and door can be fixed, but I don't ever want her to feel like that again.  I wonder if she would use one of those pee pads, in an emergency.

Some pads already have an attractant in them, but you can always add more. Just Google "attractant for housetraining a puppy" and several different brands come up.

Poor Lacy!  I was thinking the same thing.  Might be worth a try.

Here's an instance when this post never showed up for me under new posts.

Anyway sorry to be dumb but I don't understand. Or maybe I do, not sure. Are you saying she tore up the walls and door trying to get out?

Poor girl!  You would have to train her to the pee pads I think. But I don't know, there are some dogs that just have too much of a sense of what should be, to pee in the house at any time.

A doggie door in the bedroom wall leading to an enclosed space?  Like what you have for the cats, but just left opened for her, only when she is in there alone, when you are out?  As she gets older it may be more difficult for her to hold it, so it might be a good idea to train her to something like this, now.

Yes, she damaged two walls and the door... she was wanting out of the bedroom and into the rest of the house.  The damage wasn't in a location that leads to outside.  I guess it is possible that there may have been scary noises (left over firecrackers maybe) that scared her.  I just assumed she had to go potty.  She definitely had to go potty, when we got home.

Actually, scary noises would make a lot more sense... going by her usual reaction to scary noises.  And the damage not being to a wall or door that leads to the outside.

We did think about enlarging the cat door (it is in the master bedroom) that goes to the outside enclosure.  BUT for that door to be big enough for Lacy to get through... it would also be big enough for a human to get through.  I don't live in a very good neighborhood.

Not to be gross...but over the years, as our (now deceased) dogs aged... accidents happened. We just assumed that was normal.  We never had an old dog not have an accident inside the house.

That's not gross at all.  Just part of living with our precious furkids.

Oh so the tearing up you think was caused by something upsetting her ot the need to toilet? I did get that wrong then.

Well I envisioned the dog door leading out to a secure enclosure.  Chain link, as opposed to the cat set up which is probably more easily broken into, relatively speaking.

Since Lacy had to go potty reallllly bad, when we returned home.... I assumed she did the damage that she did, because she had to potty and no one was home to let her out.

As I was posting (the 5:41pm post today), it hit me that maybe some scary and/or loud noises scared her... and she just wanted out of the bedroom NOW.

Random thoughts that were going on in my pointed head...
Lacy is not normally a destructive dog.
Loud noises do scare the holy heck out of her!
Wouldn't it be more likely that a dog that had to tinkle really bad, would likely (not always... but likely) tinkle on the floor?
A dog having to go potty so badly... would that dog be more likely to scratch on a door or wall that leads to the outside...rather then an inside door and wall?

Cat enclosure.... it has a door on the outside for humans to get in and out.  It could be padlocked.  The enclosure is not anchored to the block wall.  It is really heavy.  A cat wouldn't be able to move any part of it.  An adult human wouldn't be able to easily move it either.  BUT it could be done, if a person wanted in badly enough.  Lastly, the cat enclosure flooring is the same tile as in the house.

Just my opinion, but I think that would depend on the dog.  I suspect some are so well-trained or . . . fastidious that they will actually hold it, unless they really just can't.

Maybe she didn't realize there was a door to the outside?   :-\  She came in the room that way, so maybe that's (in her mind) the only way "out?"

Wish I could just ask her!
Part of me kinda hopes it was a potty issue.  I can figure out a fix for that.  And having to potty has got to be better, then being scared out of her mind.

Useless info:  ;)
We didn't even potty train her really.  She was a young pup when we got her, but she just "followed" what the other dog did.

You could get an animal communicator to ask her . . .  :D

She's a smart girl!  I bet she'd catch on with the pee pads quickly.   :)

I know how you feel though, thinking of her in such distress.  Hug1
