A Sheriff's Dept. Raffling a Puppy?

This is just so wrong on so many levels that I don't know where to begin!

Here is the K-9 (German Shepard) we will be selling tickets for at the fair this year. Tickets are $1 and we will raffle off last day of fair. A 10X10 kennel and dog house will come with the puppy. We will also be selling t-shirts and sweaters.

They are catching hell for it so hopefully they will call it off.  Remember when a radio station tried this? They were harassed enormously.  Eventually they claimed the "winner" didn't meet the criteria and no one got the puppy. They couldn't seem to bring themselves to just admit they were wrong and back out.

Not to mention the 10x10 kennel and dog house.  Good grief.

The first 50-ish comments weren't too supportive.  Hopefully they will re-think it.   fingers crossed

The raffles is bad enough.  The kennel and dog house makes it more heart breaking.

Then on top of the kennel that only encourages the dog to not be properly socialized (thus developing one of those German Shepherds that has caused our insurance company to put GSD's on their ban list), they're giving away a kennel with a solid black puppy that will easily overheat and die in the hot and humid southern summers.

Like I said, so wrong on so many levels that I just don't even know where to start. If you have twitter, please RT my tweets on it. I tweeted their county too.

The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office has cancelled the raffle for the German shepherd puppy that was going to be raffled at the Cleveland County Fair. Our original post did not state that in the past years we have required the person that won the drawing to be subjected to Cleveland County’s Animal Adoption Policy. Due to the overwhelming outcry we have teamed with a reputable 501.C3 animal rescue that has agreed to help in finding a suitable owner for this puppy. The animal rescue is also in discussion with Highland K-9 in Iredell County to provide training for the puppy. The Sheriff’s Office will be looking into other fundraising projects to help support our K-9 program. If you purchased tickets you will be contacted and your money will be refunded. If you would like to make a donation to our K-9 program you can contact Amy Miller @ Millerame@gmail.com. Amy Miller is also the contact for the animal rescue.
