Life Without A Dog...
« on: February 18, 2018, 11:38:40 PM »
... sucks.
We miss our recently departed Lacy like crazy, but ...we also miss having a dog.
Cats are wonderful.  Love them all.  But a dog is... different.

I know exactly what you mean. I realize that your age is part of why you think you shouldn't get another dog, but what about a senior dog that no one else wants? Yes, you're going to lose them sooner than a puppy, but think about how happy you could make an older dog that might never see the inside of a home otherwise.

Anyway, that's what I'm planning on doing from now on--remember I said these 2 were my last puppies? Any dogs we get from now on will be at least 7 if a small breed, and at least 5 for larger breeds.
"In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely try to train him to be semihuman. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog." Edward Hoagland
"Thorns may hurt you, men desert you, sunlight turn to fog; but you're never friendless ever, if you have a dog."

Hubby and I have been talking.  With 6 cats, a puppy would be better.... no cat issues, more than likely.  However, everyone wants a puppy.  I don't, and he doesn't.
An older dog, with unknown history... ugh.
However, I did find a rescue that rescues street dogs.  Husband and wife team, that are also dog trainers.  They keep, and work with the dogs, for a year or so.  They also have cats.
I'm thinking about asking about one that is 4 years old...
